Mel Penn Scholarship Fund

Participation in the MBA Career Services Council provides us all with an opportunity to meet and build relationships with extraordinary people.  On Tuesday March 15, 2011, we lost one such friend, Mel Penn, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mel served as MBA CSC President from 2002 – 2003 and was an instrumental part of laying the foundation for the media to recognize the MBA CSC Employment Standards.  He was respected and beloved by colleagues and actively worked to advance the CSC during his time on and off the board of directors.  Colleagues reflect fondly on his upbeat personality and drive to make a difference.

Mel joined the career services industry in 1997 when he accepted a role with his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma, as MBA Corporate Relations Executive and Director of the Student Support Center in the Michael F. Price College of Business.  As a double degree holder, Mel was a proud Sooners alumnus.

Mel’s wife, Betsy, and the family have established the Mel Penn MBA Scholarship in his honor and the MBA Career Services Council is collecting contributions toward this cause.
